Cyprus Beat San Marino with Confident Display in World Qualification
AEK Arena Larnaca, Cyprus – March 21, 2025
Cyprus claimed a well-earned 2-0 victory over San Marino at the AEK Arena, continuing their solid start to the World Championship Qualification.
A dominant first-half display and a strong second-half finish saw them comfortably overcome the visitors in front of their home fans.
First Half:
From the very first whistle, Cyprus took control of the game. They moved the ball quickly and looked to break down San Marino’s defensive setup. Their patience paid off in the 26th minute, when Pieros Sotiriou scored but unfortunately the goal was disallowed since it was an offside.

The Cypriots continued to dominate possession and chances. Cyprus ended the half with 8 shots and 69% possession, but they couldn’t extend their lead before the break.

Second Half:
San Marino showed a bit more ambition in the second half. The home side remained composed, and in the 55th minute, they tried to score again and this time the goal was accepted.

From there, Cyprus managed the game comfortably. They controlled possession, kept San Marino at bay, and at the 86th minute Andronikos Kakoullis with help of Ioannis Kosti, scored the final goal of the match.
